Construction has begun on the new building for the Holy Name Nursery and Elementary School in Umuchu. Following the signing of the agreement last March, the initial earthwork has already begun. The first images of the progress are coming in from Nigeria, accompanied by the gratitude and excitement of the entire school community.
The new building will feature nine classrooms, as well as spaces for restrooms, offices, and a storage area, spread across two floors. It will have a capacity for approximately 200 students and will address the school’s growing needs, putting an end to overcrowded classrooms and preventing hallways from continuing to be used as makeshift workspaces, thereby improving learning and working conditions for students and teachers.
The school is centrally located within the community of Umuchu, near the local market, one of the area’s main hubs for social interaction and economic activity. Its location will facilitate access to education for many children from nearby communities, helping to eliminate barriers that hinder school enrollment and promoting educational continuity.
The expected duration of the construction work is 14 months. During this time, we will closely monitor the project’s progress and share updates, looking forward to the day when hundreds of children can learn in safe and adequate facilities.
